Three Dyes, Many Possiblities: Dye a Natural Color Wheel

Ever since we were children we have been playing with the primary colors, mixing them and making new colors. Now see how the three primary colors can be used to dye a color wheel of yarns and fibers. Using three base natural dyes and mordants, additives and even mixing with other dyes students in this class will go home with not only yarns and fibers to play with but, hopefully, the excitement to continue the adventure.  All fibers will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring small amounts of their own yarns and scoured fibers to use in exhaust baths.

Supply fee: $30, extensive handout and all dyes and fibers included
No experience needed, students should wear old clothes, bring plastic bags to carry wet samples home. Pen, pencil for note taking. 12-15 students
Class room set-up: need counter space for cooking eyes and pots, electrical outlets and easy access to water. Outside access for drying and hanging wet goods. Tables for display for students' note taking and tagging of samples. Chairs for students and teacher to sit for lecture and discussion.
