Spinning with a Southern Accent

Be introduced to some Southern Sheep. In this class, spinners will be introduced to some breeds of sheep that are steeped in the history of the Southern States. Spin some Tunis, some Gulf Coast Native and its near cousin, the Florida Cracker. Meet the smaller relative of the mighty Southdown, the Babydoll Southdown. Spin some Leceister Longwool from the pastures of Georgia. Samples of both washed fleece and roving so that students can start spinning right away or try different preparations of the fibers.

Level: advanced beginner, should be able to keep a wheel spin and create a yarn.

Supply fee: $25.00, all fibers and handout.
Students should bring: spinning wheel, or a selection of drop spindles, hand cards or combs if they have them - some preparation tools will be provided for use in class.
Classroom setup: U-shaped table and chairs, table for teacher’s supplies and samples, electricity for computer
