Kumihimo is the Japanese braiding method using a stand and weighted bobbins to form the braid, Other braiding techniques use very little or no equipment, but stiff cards and heavy foam disks and plates can be used to create a wonderful selection of braids.
Not all braids can be created with the disk or plate, but with a little practice and a bit of imagination, a braider can work with this simple equipment satisfactorily for quite a long time and create a wide range of braided cords.
